Community Stakeholder Engagement We actively engage with stakeholders to better understand outside perspectives and priorities about our company and the industries and communities in which we operate. This engagement helps us improve our sustainable business practices and our company as a whole. Each of our locations, businesses and functions is expected to effectively engage its stakeholders, whom we identify as those entities that can affect or be affected by our actions, objectives and policies. This engagement is conducted on an ongoing basis, and the following provides a snapshot of how we establish and maintain productive relationships with our key stakeholder groups. We did continue to address a number of remediation issues that carried over from prior years, and details on each can be found in our 2016 Annual Report & Form 10K. In 2016, The Guardian news organization published an article on labor practices at mica mines in India. Mica is commonly used in automotive coatings to reflect and refract light. While PPG was named in the article, our regular audits of our mica supplier’s operations indicated that the company was operating in compliance with our guidelines and all applicable labor laws as outlined in our Global Supplier Code of Conduct. We met with our mica supplier to review its practices in ensuring compliance and also arranged for a third-party audit, which supported our findings that the company was complying with our guidelines. One of our largest customers recognized us for our swift attention to the issue and open communications with customers. In January 2017, we joined the Responsible Mica Initiative, which is working to eradicate child labor and unacceptable working conditions in the Indian mica supply chain. Industry Engagement We actively work with the following industry associations by maintaining board and other leadership positions: In addition, we are an active participant in the RESPONSIBLE CARE® and COATINGS CARE® initiatives.
